Our mission is to make the principles and practice of yoga more accessible to addicts and alcoholics in substance use disorder treatment facilities throughout the state of California.

Who We Are

The Kali Yoga Project is a 501c3 non-profit operating out of San Diego, California. The Kali Yoga Project was founded by the two of us, an addiction counselor and a yoga teacher, who came together with the goal of delivering an accessible, transformative, and healing yoga practice to addicts and alcoholics throughout the county. We tailor our classes to the community we will serve, and all generally include trauma-sensitive yoga through gentle movement, breathwork, and teachings of mindfulness and stress relieving techniques. We offer classes both in-person and virtually, for clients in residential drug treatment centers and as outpatients of sober living communities.

The integration of a yoga curriculum into a recovery treatment experience has numerous benefits. When people think of yoga they usually imagine a room of women in yoga pants doing headstands, however there is so much more to yoga than this. Yoga is the practice of uniting the mind, body and soul through movement, breathwork, meditation, and connection. Every single person that shows up is there for a different reason and needs something unique from their experience. It is not our job to tell someone what they need, but to listen and help them discover it for themselves. Read more here on the benefits of yoga …

Mindfulness, yoga and meditation are trending in the recovery community for a reason; it's because they work. Unfortunately, for many residents of these treatment centers, yoga is inaccessible or just flat-out intimidating. That is where The Kali Yoga Project steps in. Staying true to our mission statement, we show up to teach an accessible and fruitful yoga practice, inform the individual on how they can take the practice off the mat and into their lives outside of treatment, and finally to begin the healing process.
